Here’s how to get started:

Choose a sunny spot
Potatoes love light and warmth. A sunny, well-drained area in your garden is perfect.

Prepare the soil
Loosen the soil well. You can enrich it with compost in the fall, or well-rotted manure if added in advance. Avoid using fresh manure in spring—it may burn the plants.

Chit your potatoes
Let your seed potatoes sprout before planting. Place them in a bright, cool place for a few weeks until they grow short, sturdy shoots.

Planting time
Plant them in April or early May, depending on your climate. Bury the tubers about 10–15 cm deep and 30–40 cm apart, in rows spaced 60 cm apart.

Mound the soil
As the plants grow, regularly mound soil around the stems. This prevents sunlight from greening the potatoes and encourages better yield.

Watering and care
Water during dry spells and watch out for pests like Colorado potato beetles.

With just a bit of effort, you’ll soon harvest your own delicious homegrown potatoes—nothing tastes better than those first ones from your own garden! 😋
