How to encourage earlier blooms?
- Start indoors – Begin growing tubers in pots indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Keep them in a warm, bright place.
- Provide warmth – Maintain temperatures around 18–22°C (65–72°F) to stimulate early growth.
- Ensure good light – Place plants in a sunny window or use grow lights to prevent weak, leggy growth.
- Use the right soil – A light, well-draining mix with added perlite will help roots develop quickly.
- Water moderately – Keep the soil slightly moist, but avoid overwatering, which can cause rot.
- Pinch young shoots – Once the plants have 3–4 sets of leaves, pinching the tips will encourage bushy growth and more flowers.
- Harden off before planting – About a week before moving outdoors, gradually expose them to outdoor conditions.
Extra Tip: Fertilize with a phosphorus-rich fertilizer once the plants are established for even better blooms!
