Where does cabbage grow best?

Cabbage vegetables are plants suited for cool climates. The optimal growth temperature is 15-20°C, and during the seedling phase, a temperature of 10-15°C is maintained. Cabbage vegetables tolerate frost and light frosts well. Contrary to its name, savoy cabbage undoubtedly ranks among the most resistant varieties. However, it should be noted that prolonged cold during the seedling phase can lead to stunted plant growth and premature seed stalk shooting. Cabbage vegetables require plenty of light. They do not thrive well in shady beds or under trees. However, excessive sunlight is also not preferred.

What are the water and soil requirements for cabbage?

Cabbage vegetables have a high water requirement. White cabbage has the greatest need, while savoy cabbage is more resistant to water deficiency. White cabbage is also very demanding in terms of soil. It thrives best on soils with high water capacity. Early varieties should be grown on lighter soils that warm up quickly in spring. Late varieties thrive best on heavier soils with a fairly high water table but not acidic soils. The best soils are black soils, clayey soils, and well-amended peat soils.
