Seal the building
Inspect the building for gaps or cracks that rodents could use to enter. Ideally, this is done before the colder months, but checking in winter doesn’t hurt either. Even small openings in foundations, around pipes, doors, or windows can serve as entry points. Keep basement doors and windows closed – rodents are attracted to the warmth escaping from openings.
Maintain order
-
Secure food. Rodents are drawn to easily accessible food. Store leftovers, unsealed groceries, and pet food in airtight containers. Avoid leaving water sources exposed.
-
Clean regularly. Sweep floors in storage or utility rooms to remove crumbs or small food residues.
-
Take care of the garden. Leaf piles, unused items, or compost near walls provide ideal hiding places. A tidy garden and keeping such spots away from the house reduces the risk of mice entering.
Use traps!
Traps and live traps can be set preventively in areas prone to rodent activity. Regularly checking these spots allows quick action before a problem develops.
