How to propagate Rhododendrons by layering?

  1. Choose a healthy, flexible branch – Select a low-growing shoot that can be bent down to the soil.
  2. Make a small cut – Gently scrape the underside of the branch where it will touch the soil to encourage rooting.
  3. Bury the branch – Secure the wounded part in the soil, leaving the tip above the ground. You can use a stone or a wire pin to hold it in place.
  4. Keep the soil moist – Water regularly to support root development.

When topPropagate by layering?

  • Spring or early summer is the best time for layering.
  • Roots usually develop within a few months, and by the following season, the new plant can be separated from the mother plant.
