In January, it is worth conducting an inspection of orchards for the presence of bark canker or fire blight. At the same time, attention should be paid to whether there are dried fruits, known as "mummies," left on the trees. Leaving them can contribute to the occurrence of brown rot in pome fruit trees. If tree pruning was carried out in February, it is important to protect the resulting wounds. Larger cut surfaces should be treated with horticultural ointment, which prevents pathogens from penetrating the plant's interior. This reduces the risk of diseases such as bark canker, bacterial canker, apple scab, or silver leaf.
In the second half of February and in March, the first sprays should be applied.
