Hello everyone! We know it’s the same for you as it is for us – already in January you feel like stretching your legs and getting back into the garden. And you’re absolutely right! This is a great time to focus on your garden and get some tasks done now, before spring gets too busy.

That’s why we’ve prepared a clear overview of what you can already do in your garden in January. And surprisingly – there’s quite a lot!

🪚 Pruning fruit trees and shrubs
January is the right time to prune fruit trees and bushes. Pruning keeps plants healthy and helps produce tasty fruit. You can prune until mid-March, ideally at temperatures between –5 and 0°C. In our guide “Pruning Fruit Trees and Shrubs from A to Z” we show how to prune aronia, currants, blueberries, and young newly planted fruit trees.

🖌️ Whitewashing fruit trees
Whitewashing protects tree trunks from bark cracking caused by sudden temperature changes in late winter. Search for “whitewashing” in the app to see how and when to do it properly.

🌸 Pruning Kolkwitzia (beauty bush)
January is also a good time to remove shoots growing close to or along the ground.

✂️ Fixing snow damage
Plants bent by heavy snow can now be pruned and corrected – for example, thuja. Check out our guide “How to prune a thuja bent by snow”.

🪷 Checking buds
Winter pruning is a great opportunity to check the buds on your fruit plants – they’ll tell you what kind of harvest to expect.

🌳 Shaping the tree crown using water shoots
While pruning fruit trees, you can also shape a new crown. Search for “water shoots” in the app to learn how to use them correctly.

All of these tasks are specific to January and are shown in the video above. So let’s get started and work now for healthy plants and beautiful fruit in the coming season!

Good luck!
