When to Prune Lavender?
- First Pruning: Late April to early May, when the lavender begins to turn green and shows signs of new growth.
- Second Pruning: After flowering. Some lavender varieties might surprise you with a second bloom if you prune correctly!
How to Prune Lavender?
Start with the Basics:
- Use sharp, clean pruning shears to avoid damaging the plant.
- Remove any dead or woody stems to encourage fresh growth.
Shape the Plant:
- Trim back around 1/3 of the green growth to shape the plant into a neat, rounded mound.
- Avoid cutting into the woody part of the stems, as lavender struggles to regenerate from old wood.
Encourage Re-Blooming:
- After the first bloom, prune lightly to remove spent flowers and tidy the plant. This encourages some varieties to produce a second wave of blooms.
Good luck, and enjoy your beautifully blooming lavender! ✨
