There are different varieties of carrots, and each is sown at different times. The mid-early variety "Romance" can be sown from March to June. The very early variety that can be sown as early as February is "Flyaway".
Although in our opinion, the best time for sowing carrots is the first half of April.
How to sow carrots...
A week before sowing, it is advisable to loosen the top layer of soil well. You can mix it with fertilizer such as manure or organic compost. Do not use fresh manure, but use it in autumn.
Make a trench with the handle of a rake and go through it several times to compact the soil at the bottom of the trench. Lightly water the trench. A compacted soil holds moisture longer. Then sow the seeds as thinly as possible. Although they will probably still need thinning. Some thin them several times to give the carrots enough space to grow.
Carrots are sown quite shallowly - about 1-1.5 cm deep. In rows about 30 cm apart.
Like other vegetables, carrots are sown in a sunny location. They do not have as many requirements as parsley, and sandy-loamy soil is good for carrots.
